District staff said contractors Colliers and the mover Myers will handle the bulk of the relocation. “We have a 3 week move window starting in mid June to the July where everything will be packaged up and spread it out amongst those 3 areas,” District staff (Speaker 1) said. The district expects professional movers to perform the vast majority of the work; staff said about 90% of the move will be handled by contractors, with district custodial staff and some internal moves supporting the effort.
The district said teachers are responsible for packing personal and classroom items; district property only will be moved. District staff said 4,700 boxes are scheduled to arrive May 1 to support packing.
Site and schedule details: District staff said exterior site work is underway and substantial completion is expected in May. The district reported the project is on budget. After substantial completion, staff said the district will pursue a certificate of occupancy, which must be issued before teachers, staff and administrators may occupy the building without contractor supervision.
The meeting included discussion of public access and building turnover timelines. District staff said that while the district hopes to schedule tours for teachers and board members before school opens, public events at buildings to be vacated—such as Ryerson—will be more complicated because of staging for redistribution and eventual demolition or disposal; the district estimated no demolitions would occur for at least six months and that full clearance could extend closer to a year.
District staff noted a milestone on utilities: “We hit a milestone today. The Eversource meter was now put in our main. So, officially, we are now the Neck River Elementary School at 180 Mongertown Road,” District staff (Speaker 1) said.
The district said it will provide detailed move schedules to schools and board members ahead of the mid‑June start and will coordinate custodial and contractor tasks to minimize double‑handling.
