Facilities update: school signs completed, boilers online; Sheehan elevator transformer estimated at $5,000

Facilities staff updated the operations committee Jan. 13 on several ongoing projects across district schools and on a recent equipment failure at Sheehan High School.
Mr. Deptula reported the three school signs for Moran, Sheehan and Pond Hill are completed and will be removed from the project list. Key lock boxes for police access have been installed to allow first responders to access building keys with swipe-card entry. Lyman Hall’s permanent boilers are commissioned and the temporary boiler was disconnected; the vendor will remove the temporary unit.
Civil engineering for the Sheehan track-and-field area is in finalization; Mr. Deptula said the civil engineer had not found any new major issues but would issue recommendations as they finalize documents.
A new item: an elevator transformer at Sheehan burned out. Deptula said the replacement part appears to be around $5,000; installers are seeking less-expensive options but the part appears specialized. He estimated installation labor could be another $1,000–$2,000.
On Fairfield Boulevard (the planned transition program site), Deptula and others said architects and all interested parties are meeting imminently to finalize design details; staff expect to have more firm information after those planned meetings.
Next steps: staff will finalize recommendations from the track-and-field civil engineer, pursue the elevator transformer replacement and provide scheduling and cost updates, and report back to the committee at future meetings.
