Danbury officials outline staffing surge and moving plan for DHS West campus

Superintendent Dr. Casimero and district staff briefed the Danbury School District Board of Education on a planned surge of hiring and the logistical work required to open the new Danbury High School (DHS) West satellite campus.
Dr. Casimero said the district is preparing for a significant spring recruiting effort to staff the satellite campus and fill normal seasonal vacancies. He said the district will advertise openings heavily in mid- to late April, hold a hiring fair and bring in agency support to handle paperwork and onboarding volume.
The district is partnering with teacher residency programs and regional universities to build a teacher pipeline; Dr. Casimero said three special education residents are currently in the pipeline. Staff also described discussions with Dan Donovan about using on-site storage containers to stage supplies and instructional materials before the move.
On timing and site readiness Dr. Casimero said the district's target date for staff to begin moving in is Aug. 4, but he cautioned that the date is fluid and depends on construction completion, systems testing, air balancing and tech systems commissioning. The board expressed interest in touring the new building; staff suggested the last Wednesday in May as a tentative date for a board visit, subject to site readiness.
Logistics and materials District staff said the move will involve relocating teachers and equipment from several district locations, conducting a substantial purge of long-stored supplies and ordering instructional materials and library items in advance so they arrive in time for opening. The district plans to track incoming inventory with check-in procedures at DHS West and use containers on-site as temporary storage before final relocation.
Community questions Board member Joyce asked about reports of a proposed 50-foot sign for DHS West. Dr. Casimero said he would follow up and asked Joyce to share any further information. No formal board action was taken during the update.
