St. Mary's County planning commissioners continue two village-center cases to May 5

The St. Mary's County Planning Commission on April 14 voted to continue two agenda items — a zoning map change for the Pax River Village Center and a townhouse development review for the Pecks River Village Center — to a May 5 public hearing at 6:30 p.m. in the Chesapeake Building after the applicant requested more time to review recent Navy comments in the staff report.

Applicant representative Chris Longmore told the commission, “my client has asked me to request a continuance of both items that are on the agenda tonight. The specifically, the reason is that some of the comments that were in the staff report from the, Navy, my client had not had a chance to review until very recently.” He proposed May 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Chesapeake Building in the St. Mary’s County Governmental Center as the new hearing date and location.

Commissioner Judy Filias moved to continue both cases; Commissioner Lynn Dellahey seconded the motion. The commission approved the continuance by voice vote with all members responding "aye." No opposition or abstentions were recorded on the transcript.

The two items were listed on the meeting agenda after approval of the March 24 minutes. County staff introduced at the start of the meeting included Courtney Jenkins, deputy director of the Department of Land Use and Growth Management, Brandy Glenn, planner, Shawn Leigh Blasco, and Megan Higgs Carter, senior planning specialist; no substantive remarks from staff about the cases appear in the record for the April 14 meeting. The meeting concluded shortly after the commission approved the continuance and then adjourned.

The commission scheduled both cases for the May 5 hearing to allow the applicant to address agency comments referenced in the staff report. No additional materials or changes to the applications were discussed on the April 14 record.
