Cowlitz County schedules bids for roof and pavement projects, awards chip-seal aggregate and readies ARPA-funded water-meter contract

Cowlitz County public works staff presented multiple contracting items on April 8, including call-for-bids dates, an aggregate bid award and a contract-ready procurement for water meters.
Bid scheduling: Public works said the county will open bids May 12 at 1:30 p.m. for two projects: replacement of the county administration building roof and the countywide pavement-overlay (asphalt overlay) project. Staff estimated the overlay work would use about 10,782 tons of asphalt material this year.
Awarded aggregate for chip seal: Public works reported a bid award to Sterling Breen Crushing Inc. for aggregate delivered to county road shop sites for this summer’s chip-seal program. The total delivered cost reported was $431,005.23. Staff said four bids were received, three within roughly $20,000 of each other and one about $100,000 higher.
Water meters and ARPA funding: Public works said the residential water-meter equipment and software procurement with Correct Equipment is ready to execute and is not to exceed $425,567.16. Commissioners confirmed this procurement will be funded from ARPA allocations set aside for water-meter upgrades.
What’s next: Public works will accept bids on the scheduled dates, and staff will complete contract execution with the awarded vendors and manage deliveries to sites as planned.
