A representative of the Southborough Gardeners presented a mock-up for a new sign to be installed in the library’s garden and said the club unanimously approved the design and funding.
The presenter, Jane, described a river-stone mounting with a bronze disc showing the gardeners' peony logo and the words "Southborough Gardeners established 1972." She said the design is intended to be "as organic as possible" and "not necessary for you to be able to read it from the street" because the sign is meant to integrate with the garden. Jane said the club sourced the rock and is working with Signarama and Monty's Memorials for the bronze plaque and installation.
Trustees discussed scale, placement and maintenance. Jane said the project cost is "over $2,000" and that the town's building or sign administrator needed to approve the new sign; that approval step has occurred. She said Curtis from DPW will install the stone and that the project team would coordinate with DPW and landscaping contractors.
Trustees praised the design and asked staff to notify DPW and grounds crews about final placement to prevent mower/weed-wacker damage. No formal trustee vote was required; the presentation was informational and the Gardeners' club decision to fund the sign was reported to trustees.
