Madison Announces New Utilities Director, Upcoming Events and Community Engagement Initiatives

City staff announced Michael Pluster as the new utilities director; Pluster started about a month before the meeting, and staff said he brings experience from the electric industry and has begun work overseeing utilities operations.
Staff reported several project updates: the Armory roof replacement following a fire is complete and repairs to associated damage have been finished, though the Armory floor shows water-related buckling that the city’s insurance and contractor teams are reviewing. Staff said many ongoing community engagement events have become established enough to move off the active-project list.
Library programming and Makerspace activities were highlighted: past programming included a Valentine box project and Best Buddies, and upcoming events noted in the packet included Musical Bingo on March 6, a Makerspace open house on March 13 (5–6 p.m.), and a Readers Fair on April 28. Staff said the Makerspace houses tools including a laser engraver, 3D printer, sewing machine and robotics kits for public use.
Staff introduced a new outreach campaign called “Good Neighbors, Great Madison,” which will provide periodic reminders on routine community topics; an early campaign message will encourage residents to pick up pet waste. Staff also encouraged residents to download the city’s Madison app and sign up for text updates.
Announcements included a City Circle event on March 18 (1–2 p.m.) at Valiant Living, openings for the Community Center Advisory Committee (term through December 2026) and Housing and Redevelopment Commission (term through February 2029), and the next regular commission meeting on March 17, 2025 at 5:30 p.m.
