Commission reviews strategic plan progress; staff eyes trail funding and seeks developer for old City Hall

Jamieson said the city is one year into the 2024–26 plan and that pillars 1 (community engagement) and 5 (investing in the city workforce) received the most attention in year one. "I feel like we've made great strides there, especially with the first pillar, through hiring our new communications director," Jamieson said. He noted that several infrastructure items remain in progress.

Jamieson said the city budgeted $40,000 for a gravel trail around the pond and that previous RTP reviewers preferred projects that improved connectivity rather than those that developed an existing site. "Last year... we budgeted 40,000. Realistically... the grant opportunities, everybody's pulling from the grant opportunities," Jamieson said. Staff said they will consider applying again and will look for a connectivity project that might score higher.
Old City Hall RFP and status: Jamieson told commissioners city staff and operations have vacated the old City Hall; the building is secured and the city has an RFP out seeking redevelopment proposals. He said the property is eligible for historic registry listing but is not currently registered and that the RFP is available on the city's website (staff offered to provide copies to interested parties). "We have an active request for proposal out for anybody looking to redevelop the property," Jamieson said.
Ending: Commissioners signaled no immediate additional direction; staff will continue to pursue grant and internal funding options for the trail project and will follow up on redevelopment leads for the old City Hall.
