Jamieson told the commission the city acquired the Sportsplex about a year earlier and had budgeted funds for partial roof replacement this year. The city received six bids; the low bid for the base work came from ACS at $139,500. There were two alternates for additional roof portions (approximately $39,006 and $36,001), but staff recommended awarding only the base bid because the alternates exceeded the current budgeted amount and staff wanted to preserve contingency in case additional repairs were required upon removal of the existing roof.
A commissioner noted the building had active leaks during heavy rain and that the base-bid scope covers the original north two-thirds of the building; the south third is an addition and represented the alternates. The commission approved the award by voice vote.
