Madison highlights parks upgrades, early-learning center and strategic-plan progress

City officials provided updates on parks and community programs, saying the Sportsplex (formerly Campbell Supply) now offers archery, batting cages and indoor turf; Memorial Park and Tautland Park have 24/7 heated restrooms near the ice rink; and Veterans Honor Park is nearing completion with turf, lighting and landscaping still to be installed this summer.
The official said the LEIC's Early Learning Center under construction on Highland Avenue will "have the capability of handling a 40 children a day" and will be operated by an operator identified as MB that also runs child-care facilities in Sioux Falls. The official also said the city conducted a three-year strategic plan starting in 2024 and concluding in 2026, covering 86 strategies across five principles, with 43% of strategies either in progress or completed and 69% of community-engagement strategies in progress or completed. The city hired a director of communications and plans more in-person engagement events such as City Circle and State of the City presentations.
Officials described Veterans Honor Park as a partnership with the VFW and American Legion and a community committee handling fundraising, design and construction; remaining work this summer includes turf, final lighting and landscaping.
