Commission accepts friends-of-pool donation to buy automated pool covers

Staff presented a purchase requisition for custom automated covers from Pool Supply Unlimited at a purchase price of $22,648.24. Friends of the Pool will provide the funds; the city will accept the covers as a donation, add the equipment to city assets and assume related insurance and depreciation responsibilities. Park and recreation staff and Friends representatives described the covers as more energy-efficient and easier to operate than the current manual covers.
Commissioners thanked the Friends of the Pool for fundraising and noted safety benefits of an automated cover that forms a secure surface over the water. City staff said the covers are for heat-loss reduction and are not the fully locking-type that completely seal a pool but that they were reviewed for safety and are compatible with Montana fencing and safety requirements. The motion passed on a roll call with Commissioners Bueller, Day, Hewitt, Robertson, Spica and Terry recorded as aye.
Staff will process the procurement under city purchasing policy, accept the donated equipment, add the asset to city records and coordinate installation with the recreation department and Friends of the Pool.
