The Little Compton Town Council approved a request from the recreation committee to proceed with the next phase of a pickleball and tennis court project, including preparation of a special-use-permit application and associated engineering work.
The committee asked for a not-to-exceed authorization tied to an invoice from Activitas for $6,980 to prepare the special use materials, attend the zoning hearing and produce associated documents. Councilors noted the invoice included an advertising line item for hearings that would not be the engineers’ responsibility and asked that the cost be reviewed. The council approved proceeding but made the approval subject to solicitor review of final costs and scope.
Members observed that the town, as applicant and owner, will present the application and that committee members and town officials should be prepared to speak at the zoning board hearing. The motion to allow the work to move forward, with the cost to be finalized after the solicitor’s review, passed on a voice vote.
