Chicopee Public Schools reported 40 active job postings across teaching and support categories and described several recent resignations and retirements.
Deb Green, speaking to the committee, said the district had ongoing vacancies in teacher (Unit A) positions, paraprofessionals (Unit E), nurses and food service, and noted that several hires came from the district’s substitute pool. She said as of the morning of the meeting there were 40 active postings on PowerSchool.
Superintendent Dr. Ware reported three retirees being honored at the meeting. The retirees were Kelly Lacoste, a fifth-grade teacher at Shriver School with 28 years and six months of service; Diane LaRose, a special-education paraprofessional at Bowie School with 27 years and four months of service; and Sherry Shanowski, principal at Bow School with 36 years and nine months of service. Dr. Ware said the three retirees combined for more than 80 years of service to the district and outlined each person’s career highlights as presented to the committee.
Committee members offered tributes and congratulations. The report did not include formal committee action beyond acknowledgment; hiring and personnel approvals were described as part of the personnel report and recruitment work continues.
