The personnel report listed nine new hires, seven resignations and three retirees whose combined service exceeds 80 years. The committee honored the retirees, including a principal retiring after about 37 years in the district.
The Chicopee School Committee received a personnel report on March 19 that listed nine new hires, seven resignations and three retirements covering the period Feb. 27 through March 12.
Deb Grama presented the personnel summary, saying the report included two hires in Unit A and two in Unit E, three hires that came from the substitute pool and ongoing vacancy listings on the district’s recruitment portal. “As of this morning, we have 40 active postings on PowerSchool,” Grama said.
Superintendent Mark Ware recognized three retirees whose combined service the district described as more than 80 years. Ware named:
- Kelly Lacoste, a fifth-grade teacher at Shriver School with 28 years, 6 months of service; - Diana Rose, a special-education paraprofessional at Bowie School with 27 years, 4 months of service; and - Sherry Shanowski, a principal with about 37 years of service in the district.
On retirement, Shanowski said, “I love that I have remained in one district throughout my whole journey,” and reflected that seeing multiple generations of families was among the most rewarding parts of her career.
Committee members offered thanks and congratulations. The personnel report also listed ongoing vacancies across teaching, special-education, nurse and food-service positions and named several recent professional-development conferences attended by staff.
