New Shoreham adopts hazard mitigation and flood management plan after public hearing

The New Shoreham Town Council on April 7 adopted a hazard mitigation and flood management plan after a brief public hearing and remarks commending the outreach process.
Kim Jacobs, a civil engineer and resilience planning consultant who assisted the town, said the planning effort included an advisory committee of town staff, residents, conservationists, business and utility representatives and generated 82 public survey responses. Jacobs thanked the advisory co‑chairs and volunteers and described the plan as community‑centric.
The council closed the public hearing after no further public comment and voted to adopt the plan by resolution. Members praised project staff, including Shirlene Goeburn, the conservation group representatives and town staff who supported outreach and committee work.
The council asked staff to circulate the resolution and the adopted plan to relevant town boards and to continue work on any prioritized mitigation actions described in the document.
