Scituate promotes Travis Mallow to sergeant and swears in two lateral officers

Scituate — Police Chief Rawlinson presented a recommendation at the council meeting to promote Patrol Officer Travis Mallow to the rank of sergeant and to hire two lateral recruits, Jason Bullock and Amber Perez, as probationary police officers.
Rawlinson said Mallow graduated from the Brown Police Academy in 2015, lateraled to the Scituate Police Department in 2017 and holds an associate degree from the Community College of Rhode Island in criminal justice; Rawlinson said Mallow will serve as a night supervisor and oversee taser certifications. At the meeting Mallow took the oath of office, saying, “I, Travis Mallow, do solemnly swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States and the state of Rhode Island,” and that he would “faithfully execute my duties as a sergeant.”
The chief also introduced lateral candidates Jason Bullock and Amber Perez and described their backgrounds. Rawlinson said Bullock worked at the Lincoln Police Department for 20 years and later served with the Rhode Island Airport Corporation; Bullock holds a bachelor’s degree from Roger Williams University and a master’s from Salve Regina University. Rawlinson said Perez served in the Rhode Island Army National Guard, worked for the Transportation Security Administration, graduated the 2019 police academy, and most recently served as an explosives-detection canine handler at the Rhode Island Airport Corporation Police Department.
Rawlinson presented the hires and promotion as consistent with the International Brotherhood of Police Officers (IBPO) Local 502 collective bargaining agreement for terms and conditions of employment. Families of the officers joined them at the ceremony, and the officers were sworn in on the meeting floor.
