Warren Police Department swears in five officers, promotes lieutenant and sergeant

The Warren Town Council and Warren Police Department on Tuesday conducted a swearing-in ceremony for five officers and confirmed internal promotions.
Lieutenant Mark Ferrera, the department’s new nighttime lieutenant, was sworn in after a reading of his record: an Army veteran and a Warren native who joined the department in 2002 and has served as a field-training coordinator, honor guard liaison and active-shooter instructor. The council recited and certified the oath of office in a public ceremony.
The council also swore in Sergeant Ares Medeiros Jr., who has prior service with the Coventry Police Department, instructional certifications and roles including motorcycle unit and field training; Detective Austin Carrero, promoted in December 2024 after joining the department in 2018; Patrolman Sean Foley, hired after graduating the police academy in 2024; and Probationary Patrolwoman Ally Schoenfeld, a Roger Williams University graduate and academy graduate assigned to the overnight shift.
Chief Borges and Lieutenant Peralta participated in the ceremony and introduced the officers; several family members and council members attended. The council did not take separate votes to confirm the appointments at this meeting; the oaths and public formalities were administered during the recognition portion of the agenda.
