Council refers Narragansett Electric notice to Conservation Commission, notes public-comment deadlines

Town Solicitor Anthony DeSisto said the notices were from the Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council (CRMC) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. DeSisto told the council the town does not have regulatory jurisdiction over the application but may submit comments during each agency’s public-comment period. He said CRMC’s comment period runs until April 26 and the Army Corps’ comment period was open until April 9.
Council members asked whether the matter could be referred to the town’s planners or the Harbor Commission; DeSisto and others recommended referral to the Conservation Commission for technical feedback. The council voted to accept both communications and to forward them to the Conservation Commission to prepare any town comments within the federal and state comment windows.
Council members noted that the application appears to replace wooden utility poles with metal poles along areas bordering the Palmer River, and that comments must be filed quickly given the short deadlines. The council did not take a position on the application itself; it only authorized referral to the Conservation Commission and public awareness that residents may file comments directly with CRMC or the Army Corps.
