Mitchell Main Street and Beyond requested $2,000 to support marketing and team lodging for its Memorial Day weekend festival; the committee approved $1,500. Elizabeth, representing Mitchell Main Street and Beyond, said the event “enhances the quality of life for our residents, neighboring counties, and beyond,” and said the organizer hopes to expand marketing to northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota and northeast Nebraska to attract overnight visitors. The motion to fund $1,500 was made by Dave and seconded by Kevin; the motion passed.
The Mitchell Area Community Triathlon asked for $2,500 to cover timing equipment and related costs. Teresa, a triathlon committee member, said timing is the “biggest expense” and that 60–70 athletes typically compete, bringing out-of-area room nights. The authority approved a split award of $1,000 in cash and a $500 sponsorship (logo placement and sponsorship benefits). Tim moved the award and LaRue seconded; the motion passed.
The Rods & Rides car show (formerly promoted as the Outcast car show) received $1,000. Jerry Wright, the organizer, said the group spends roughly $850 on trophies and mailing invitations and reported about 50 cars at recent shows with “56 motel rooms filled for 1 night.” Kevin moved the motion and Tim seconded; the motion passed.
The committee voted to table the women’s state softball tournament request until the May meeting so organizers can provide clarifying information. Dave moved to table the request and Maru seconded; the motion to table passed.

The authority also approved minutes from the March meeting and the financial report for the period ending April 3, 2025 earlier in the meeting. The minutes were approved on a motion by Tim with a second from Jason. The financial report, presented by staff, showed $57,750 in award checks written for 2025 and an available SEA fund balance of $92,250; approval came by motion from Dave and second from Emily.
The committee scheduled its next meeting for May 13.
