Downtown board approves $21,300 in façade, roof and lighting grants

The Downtown Revitalization Board approved five grants totaling $21,300 for façade, roofing and lighting work and moved several smaller administrative items, the board said during its most recent meeting.
The board, after a closed executive session on confidential commercial and financial information, approved awards for: Mike and Jen Lauritzen ($3,500); Bates/Big Dummies (awning only, $4,700); the Koinonia Building owned by Delfavaro (EIFS only, $4,000); Dan Houser for the Antique Mall Building (roof project, $8,400); and Adamo’s at the former Crafty Fox building (lighting only, $700).
The approvals followed a presentation of the board’s current finances by Ashley, a board finance staff member, who said the board had "about $21,400" available to grant after accounting for previously awarded but unredeemed funds. Ashley also said the streetscape account had about $8,598.22 remaining, and that two checks of $3,000 and $720 had recently been disbursed.
The board first reviewed and approved minutes from its Aug. 28 meeting by voice vote before moving to the executive session. The motion to go into executive session was made for a discussion of "confidential trade secrets, commercial and financial information" and was approved.
After reconvening, board members made and seconded motions to allocate the grants listed above. Each award was voted on by roll call and approved. Roll-call responses recorded board members Ben, Tanya, Matt, Blake and Larry voting in favor on the individual awards when polled.
Ashley noted that a small number of previously awarded grants remain pending from the Aug. 28 meeting: a $3,488 award to Mike A. J. Martin and a $1,135 award to Chris Morris, both still outstanding because the recipients have until August to complete the work and submit final documentation.
No ordinances, contracts, or regulatory citations were discussed or referenced during the public portions of the meeting. The board closed the meeting following a routine motion to adjourn.
The approved awards specify limited scopes in several cases: Bates/Big Dummies’ award is restricted to awning work only; the Koinonia Building award is for EIFS (exterior insulation and finish system) repairs only; and Adamo’s award is for lighting only. The Antique Mall award was described as for the roof project. The Lauritzen award did not include an additional scope qualifier in the record.
