Yankton commission approves contracts, permits and schedule changes in brief meeting

The Yankton City Commission voted on a slate of contracts, permits and calendar changes during its regular business meeting, approving infrastructure contracts, special-event liquor licenses and two schedule changes for 2025.

The commission approved awarding a cold-applied plastic pavement marking contract to Sir Lanes A Lot of Harrisburg for $107,246.40 and awarded a Summit Street water-main replacement contract to Maceray Components Inc. for $332,290.65. The commission also approved a sidewalk cafe permit for Walnut Tavern, Inc., at 100 West Third Street; the purchase of an evidence-drying cabinet funded by a Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for the Police Department; and the disposal of Police Department surplus property. Several single-day special liquor and malt-beverage/wine licenses for events at the Center, the Boathouse and other venues were also approved.

Commissioners also approved two schedule changes for 2025: moving the regular May 26 commission meeting to May 27 because of Memorial Day observances, and moving the October meeting originally set for Monday, Oct. 13 to Tuesday, Oct. 14 in recognition of Native American Day. The changes passed on a roll-call vote.

Votes were recorded by roll call for each motion; in each recorded vote the motion carried. The meeting also approved minutes from the March 24, 2025 meeting and authorized payment of the city’s bills.

The items were handled with limited debate. Several motions were moved and seconded and then approved by roll call; no recorded public objections were noted during those votes.

Ending: The commission adjourned to an executive session on contractual and personnel matters after completing new business.
