Hearing continued after inspectors document automotive repair activity near train station; owner promises to clear site

Norwalk zoning, health and fire staff told the Jan. 15 hearing they found active automotive repair at a property visible from the train-station parking lot and that the activity persisted through follow-up inspections on Jan. 2 and Jan. 9.
Inspectors said they observed vehicles being repaired on jacks and lifts, unregistered vehicles, drums and jugs of fluid and other signs of automotive work both inside and outside the structure. Staff said they instructed the owner on zoning, fire and health rules during the Oct. 17 inspection and again during a Nov. 26 follow-up but observed continued activity.
City staff reported that the owner, who lives out of town, received the hearing citation and emailed on Jan. 13 stating the tenant or employees would clear the automotive activity by Friday, Jan. 17. Staff said they would give a short extension in deference to that representation but continued the matter to Feb. 12, 2025 for inspection and further action if the site is not cleared. No fine was assessed at this hearing.
City staff said the property is under an LLC and that constable service was completed; the hearing record contains inspection photographs, constable returns and email correspondence from the owner.
