Council approves annexation of roughly 55 acres for industrial expansion in northeast Brookings

The City Council approved Resolution 25-027 to annex the west half of the northeast quarter (excluding platted areas and land north of U.S. Highway 14) in Section 20, Township 110 North, Range 49 West — an area the city described as about 55 acres and a phase‑1 priority for annexation.
Mike Struck, community development director, said the site is contiguous to city limits, can be readily served with utilities and carries unanimous support from the planning commission and the development review team. “It’s approximately 55 acres. It’s within one of our phase 1 priority annexation areas,” Struck said.
Why it matters: annexation adds land the city can serve and plan for industrial or development use; the county commission approved a supporting resolution at its meeting last week.
Council action
A motion to approve the annexation was moved, seconded and carried on a roll call vote with all council members recorded as “aye.”
