City outlines timeline to fill council vacancy; appointments to serve until 2026

City Clerk Bonnie Foster outlined the process and timeline to appoint a replacement for Councilmember Andrew Rasmussen, whose resignation was effective Feb. 28.
Foster said the process follows the city charter and City Council Policy No. 205. Applications will be accepted beginning the week of the announcement, with an April 4 deadline to apply. The council plans a study session on April 15 to meet applicants and expects to act on an appointment on April 22; the newly appointed member would take the oath of office May 13 and, because the vacancy occurred fewer than 60 days before the next regular city election, the appointee will serve through 2026.
Foster provided background on previous vacancies and appointments used for reference in the packet and said staff will issue a press release and an application packet for interested candidates. Council members had no objections to the proposed timeline.
