Mike Struck, community development director, presented the first reading of Ordinance 25‑005 to rezone a parcel in the joint jurisdictional area near Main Avenue South and Sixth Street from agricultural to joint jurisdiction B‑3 (heavy business) to align with the future land-use map that identifies the area as urban medium intensity.
Struck said the property lies just south of Sixth Street and includes land currently zoned A‑G (agricultural) on three sides with B‑3 immediately to the west. He said the Planning Commission returned a unanimous recommendation for approval and that the Brookings County Commission is tentatively scheduled to consider the rezone on March 11.
Struck said the request aligns with the future land-use map’s urban medium-intensity designation and returns to council for a future hearing and final action after the county review.
