Deputy Chief Coppola briefed the board on training activities: EMS recertification for members whose credentials expire in 2025 is ongoing and expected to finish by month’s end, with CPR recertification running concurrently.
Coppola said fit testing for self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) will also be completed by the end of the month. Familiarization and deployment training for the new attenuator truck has been completed at headquarters and will rotate to other stations; Coppola said members were trained during the holidays and subsequent weeks on set-up and deployment for roadway incidents.
Coppola said engine-company operations training was limited by cold weather, and he reported ongoing ice-rescue and other seasonal training. Promotion processes were in motion: a captain promotional process just concluded with written and interview components and a deputy chief promotional exam is being scheduled for April–May as the eligibility list expires.
Why it matters: certification, equipment training and promotions affect operational readiness and leadership succession.
Speakers: Deputy Chief Coppola.
