The Norwalk Park Authority reported the conclusion of a signage update on West Avenue and in SoNo and announced the citywide rollout of a free 15-minute parking option to start Jan. 30. Staff also said they plan a public forum with vendors and business representatives to explain the changes and gather input.
Brian, Parking Authority staff, said the agency replaced older multi-payment signage with a standardized format to reduce clutter and improve wayfinding. "We have standards that we're gonna follow and keep the, keep the street looking sharp," Brian said. Staff said they will issue a press release and coordinate social and in-person outreach with the Snyder Group and AGW Partners.
The authority plans vendor outreach and flyers for businesses on West Avenue and in SoNo, and will pair the rollout with a public meeting in a local venue to hear concerns and answer questions. Staff also noted ongoing work with vendor Laz and with Genteca on payments and license-plate-reader technology as part of system improvements.
Why it matters: clearer signage and a 15-minute free option aim to improve short-term turnover and reduce confusion for customers and delivery drivers; staff framed the public meeting as both outreach and education about how the changes operate.
Staff said the 15-minute free option and signage updates are an initial phase of broader efforts that include lighting and wayfinding improvements at Haviland and other facilities. The authority will monitor usage and compliance after rollout and report back to the commission.
