Norwalk City panel accepts most aquifer registration renewals; requires stormwater plan for one site

Norwalk City’s aquifer registration panel accepted most reregistration applications it reviewed and voted to require additional documentation for one application, panel members said during the meeting.

Alexis, a staff presenter, told commissioners “we've received 7 new reregistration applications” and walked the panel through each file. The panel accepted completed registrations for multiple vehicle-repair and fuel-handling facilities and voted to require a certified material management plan and a stormwater management plan for the application at 255 Main Avenue (AMCO), which staff characterized as incomplete.

Why it matters: The registration program documents regulated activities that can affect groundwater. Determinations about completeness and whether a facility must provide engineered certifications or stormwater controls affect how facilities must manage hazardous materials and stormwater discharges that could reach the aquifer.

The panel processed the following items during the meeting. For items staff determined complete, the panel motioned to accept the registration as complete and the motions carried. For RA24104 (255 Main Avenue, AMCO), staff recommended and the panel required a certified material management plan and a stormwater management plan to make the application complete; the panel set no other new conditions for the other completed files.
