Nathan (county staff) updated the joint meeting on the Pulaski County courthouse renovation, saying the project is moving toward completion and that staff reallocated funds to shore up the owner’s contingency, which currently holds $177,354.02.
The report said the project has about 23% of its timeline remaining and that the Ton and Blanks contingency balance is “somewhere between $250,000 and $300,000” of an original total just shy of $450,000. Nathan said he approved one small change order under his threshold totaling $65.94 and $0.74 to install a heater in a mechanical room; the staff report described that as an oversight arising when the HVAC system was overhauled to meet budget constraints.
The board considered one formal change order that Nathan presented for approval: $13,343.93 for painting existing baseboard heater covers plus $1,243.42 in design fees. A commissioner moved to approve the change order, a second was recorded, and the motion carried on a voice vote with those present saying “aye.”
Nathan also provided schedule and progress details: furniture orders are finalized and installation is expected to begin in mid‑June; carpet installation was reported to begin the day after the meeting; roofing metalwork and slate tile reinstallation are complete except for washing; masons were conducting their internal punch list reviews; window repairs and exterior painting were underway; paving of parking and Little Drive was expected in late May or early June; and landscaping implementation was planned for June with adjustments because of changed utility locations.
The presentation included a note that the project has been under budget in places, allowing a cushion for additional unforeseen needs (for example, “if the auditor needs a little more file storage”). No further formal direction to staff was recorded during the courthouse update.
The board’s approval of the painting change order was the only formal action specifically tied to this agenda item.
