Commissioners trim facilities budget: parking improvement deferred, outsource winter services budgeted

Staff told the commission the facilities budget reflects deferred maintenance and the need to outsource some grounds and winter services. Commissioners opted to remove the $6,000 parking-lot improvement appropriation from the capital plan after debate about whether deferring the work would meaningfully increase future costs; the motion to remove the parking improvement passed with five votes in favor, one opposed and one recorded as standing/abstaining.
The facilities review also confirmed planned work on a flat roof and a cooling tower that had been deferred in previous budgets and noted a generator project is on hold pending additional information. Staff said costs to outsource winter services were estimated from three quotes and the budget includes the highest estimate to be conservative.
Commissioners approved the remainder of the facilities budget as presented.
