MSU student urges Bozeman commission to create a student advisory board to improve civic engagement

Gracie Caudle, a Montana State University environmental science student, asked the Bozeman City Commission on Feb. 25 to create a student advisory board to improve engagement between MSU students and city government.
Caudle told commissioners that many boards lack direct student representation and that meeting times and locations often make it difficult for students to participate. She recommended an advisory body composed of students across disciplines — criminal justice, environmental science and other fields — to bring student perspectives into city decision-making and to help integrate students into the community as Bozeman continues to grow.
Commissioners accepted the comment as part of the public-comment period. No action or formal referral was recorded at the meeting; commissioners indicated such suggestions can be considered when updating boards, commissions, or civic-engagement strategies.
