The Knox County Commission voted 3-0 on Feb. 1, 2025, to enter two executive sessions to discuss personnel matters, then reconvened and adjourned the public meeting.
Commissioner 1, a Knox County commissioner, opened the meeting and said, “We are recording. I will call this, what's today's date? Tuesday, 02/01/2025 meeting of the Knox County Commission to order. I see that all 3 of us are present. We have a agenda, and as with always, we open it up to any public comment.” Commissioner 1 said there were no members of the public to speak.
Commissioner 2 moved to go into executive session to discuss personnel matters “pursuant to 1 MRSA 40568,” the statute cited in the meeting transcript; the motion passed by voice vote with three in favor and none opposed. Commissioner 1 said the commission would not take any votes during the executive sessions.
After the executive sessions, the commission returned to open session. Commissioner 2 moved to adjourn the meeting; another commissioner seconded, and the motion carried 3-0.
During the public portion of the meeting the commission scheduled two additional closed sessions for Friday at 2 p.m. and set its next public meeting for Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. (the meeting transcript referred to the sessions as “detective sessions,” which the commission intended as “executive sessions”).
No legislation, contracts, appointments or other public votes were taken during the recorded portion of the meeting.
