Fire plan reviews and inspections drop; in‑house reviews recovering after outsourcing change

David Cross, Fire Plans Review Section Manager for Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, briefed the board on inspection and plan‑review workload changes and performance metrics.
Cross said the fire plans and inspections workload likewise has decreased “roughly 35%” and that about 79% of plan reviews are being completed within the department’s 14‑day target. He said the department recently returned tracked‑home fire plan reviews from third‑party contractors to city staff and that since taking that work back the team completed roughly 233 of those reviews but that the 14‑day turnaround slipped: “They were hitting at about 98% when they were third partied, and we have gone down to about a 70% overall.” Cross said the department is “getting up to speed and catching back up.”
He said the fire division’s code‑amendment items remain aligned with the building department’s adoption schedule and that a significant local amendment area is fire access roadway widths for residential developments. Cross invited questions; board members thanked him and had no follow ups recorded in the transcript.
