LaSalle council backs letters of support for rail integration and two local infrastructure projects

An alderman explained the Governor’s Office letter aims to raise statewide awareness of transportation gaps and to support planning for Illinois passenger rail service from Peoria to Rockford and related connections. The council approved moving forward with the letter of support for an integrated railroad program; a motion carried without opposition.
Separately, staff asked the council for a straw vote to supply letters of support for two projects that will be submitted to Congresswoman Underwood: sewer lining work and a road/bicycle path to Rotary Park. Staff reported those project application deadlines require letters by April 21. Council members gave the requested straw vote and directed staff (Kurt and others) to prepare letters of support.
No funding commitments were made at the meeting; the votes authorized city support in the form of advocacy letters for project applications and regional rail coordination.
