Leggett Architects presented an update on CUSD 300's Master Facilities Plan at the April 8 Board Operations Committee meeting and administration recommended approval of the schematic design phase for Parkview Elementary, with Dewberry Architects proposed to perform schematic design at a fee of $1,000,510 funded from Capital Improvement Fund 60.
Robin Randall of Leggett Architects said the master plan is driven by learning needs and community input. Randall said the engagement effort included nearly 8,000 students and more than 1,500 staff responses and emphasized priorities such as larger classrooms, easier navigation, more collaborative spaces and expanded college‑and‑career opportunities.
The Parkview schematic design scope presented includes civil, landscape, structural, architectural, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, plumbing and technology design to support an approximately 16,200 square foot addition on the south side that will connect north and south corridors, plus a roughly 300 square foot storage addition at the gym and interior upgrades including fire protection and HVAC.
Administration recommended the Dewberry schematic design task order for Parkview at a fee of $1,000,510. The staff member presenting the construction items said the fee will be paid from Capital Improvement Fund 60.
Board members asked about the timing and funding across 2025–2027. One trustee asked whether work on Parkview would begin this year; staff confirmed that parts of the Parkview work are in the 2025 line items and that $6,000,000 of the $18,000,000 figure for 2025 relates to that work. Trustees also discussed a multi‑year playground replacement schedule. A board member questioned why several playgrounds were listed with identical budget line numbers (336) and was told the district used a consistent baseline design so students across schools receive similar experiences; staff said playground size and site work are evaluated at each location and vendor New Toys designs the equipment to fit site needs.
Randall described next steps as continuing the phased approach (good/better/best) and aligning projects with the district's strategic goals, including the priority of developing the whole child. Committee members voiced general support for moving the Parkview schematic design forward; no formal committee vote was recorded at the April 8 meeting.
