Commissioners report housing, addiction grants and cybersecurity exercise plans

At the March 25 meeting the Jefferson County commissioners used their reports to highlight ongoing county initiatives: selection of a new executive at the Jefferson Center for Mental Health, a Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee review of the county’s 15-year housing plan and a possible eviction-prevention pilot, Gateway to the Rockies opioid council grant guidance, upcoming community town halls, and a federal-funded cybersecurity tabletop exercise for county staff.
Commissioner Zenzinger said the search to replace the Jefferson Center for Mental Health’s CEO is underway and that finalists have presented vision statements to the board of that agency. She also described a presentation to the Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee where Human Services staff outlined the county’s 15-year housing plan and operations at the Lakewood navigation center. Zenzinger said attendees discussed a pilot program modeled on a Boulder program to prevent evictions by pursuing mediation alternatives to court and that multiple agencies around the table expressed interest in contributing to the pilot.
Commissioner Dahlkemper announced community events and partnerships: upcoming town halls in Evergreen and a countywide Jefferson County Commissioners Town Hall on May 8, and a Foothills town hall on April 5 focusing on wildfire mitigation and homeowners insurance. Dahlkemper also highlighted the Gateway to the Rockies Opioid Council, noting program staff led listening sessions across Jefferson, Clear Creek and Gilpin counties to allocate grant funding. “We are…responsibly and strategically allocating $12,000,000 over the next two years,” Dahlkemper said, referencing the regional council’s grant planning.
County Manager Joe Kirby said the county will host a half-day cybersecurity tabletop exercise next week funded and planned with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). He said the exercise will involve the county’s business information technology department and emergency services and is intended to practice response to cybersecurity incidents.
Commissioners also noted local engagement activities including criminal-justice mock-trial participation by students and the sheriff’s award ceremony.
