West Linn City Council heard a financial audit update on Jan. 6, 2025, during which external auditors reported a clean opinion on the city's fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.
The city’s external auditor, Tanya Moffett, managing partner at Marina and Company, told the council that the audit produced an unmodified opinion — the highest level of assurance auditors can give on financial statements. Lauren Breithaupt, the city’s finance director, introduced the audit results and thanked the finance team for its work.
A clean or unmodified opinion indicates auditors found the financial statements to be presented fairly in all material respects. Moffett also noted the city was in compliance with Oregon minimum standards for municipal audits and that the city is expected to qualify for the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) award for its annual comprehensive financial report for the 2023 and likely the 2024 reporting cycle.
Council members who spoke during the audit presentation thanked the finance staff and auditors for producing a concise report and for the lack of findings; council members noted the audit committee had a short meeting because there were no significant issues to discuss.
The audit presentation did not include any council action; the briefing served as information for the council and the public. The full audit report and the city’s financial statements will be available in the city’s records.
