Lake County’s Public Works and Transportation Committee voted April 2 to appropriate $613,000 from the quarter‑percent sales tax for right‑of‑way acquisition and related costs for Patriot Path segments 1 (west) and 4 (east). Transportation staff said detailed design plans are complete enough to prepare parcel estimates and that approximately 61 parcels will require some form of acquisition or temporary easement.
Shane Schneider, Lake County director of transportation and county engineer, told the committee that the county will coordinate with the U.S. Navy on the eastern segment and hire an outside land‑acquisition firm to handle transactions. He described this appropriation as the critical path item that will allow the project to progress to the bid phase. A committee member urged ongoing forward planning and obtaining easements during other land‑use work to reduce future acquisition complexity.
Committee members emphasized the regional importance of the connector and thanked staff for advancing the work. The motion (mover: Vice Chair Maine; second: Wasek) carried with no recorded opposition.
