District 51 launches 'Board Book' platform to centralize agendas and documents

Dan Burke, a district staff member, demonstrated Board Book March 25, the new cloud-based platform District 51 plans to use for board agendas, meeting documents and public access to materials. Burke said the product centralizes meeting management, improves public access and offers a subscription feature that sends automatic notifications when agendas or materials change.
Burke showed the public-facing site where users can search agendas, download the entire packet and locate recognitions and other items via a built-in search. He said the site is mobile-friendly and can include links to meeting video streams. Board members and staff said the platform will help transparency and efficiency for both the public and board operations. "It is really about media consumption for the public and really trying to make sure our strategic plan with transparency… make it more easier to stomach and find that information," Burke said.
Board members asked whether videos could be linked; Burke replied that integration is in progress and that staff were working to connect the district’s Facebook stream to the Board Book site so hearings can be linked from the agenda page. Several board members praised the search feature and said it will make it easier for community members and future boards to locate past discussions.
