Lexington County libraries to apply for $202,207 E‑Rate technology grant; no county match required, staff says

Lexington County’s Health & Human Services committee approved a staff request to apply for a federal E‑Rate grant to upgrade library network infrastructure, including firewalls, network switches and Wi‑Fi access points.
Kelly Poole, representing the library system, told the committee the total cost of the five projects in the application is $202,207. The federal E‑Rate program would cover about 70% of the cost and the state’s complimentary program would cover the remaining 30%, Poole said. She told the committee there would be no county or library cash match if the award is received.
Councilman Hudson moved to accept staff’s recommendation to apply for and accept the grant if awarded; the motion was seconded by Councilwoman Kerig and passed without recorded opposition.
Committee members praised the opportunity to upgrade branch network equipment and noted the upgrades cover both infrastructure and recurring licensing/maintenance costs. The motion authorizes staff to pursue the federal application and accept award terms that do not impose a county cost.
