Jackson County fills several advisory seats; Elizabeth Sparks appointed to Lifeways board after 6-3 vote

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners confirmed multiple appointments recommended by standing committees during Tuesday’s meeting, including an appointment to the Lifeways board that drew a recorded 6-3 vote.

General government committee recommendations approved included the reappointment of Jason Sanders to an at-large economic development seat (term expires March 2031); reappointments of James Sites, Mark Schottmeyer and Brad Burlinski to the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (terms expire March 2028); and the county commissioner-designated seat for the City of Jackson LDFA to Commissioner John Willis (term expires March 2029). Those items were moved and approved by the board under committee concurrence (voice votes where indicated).

Human Services committee appointments included David Moberry to Veterans Affairs (term expires March 2029) and a set of Lifeways appointments. The board confirmed Earl Pawlowski to a Lifeways commissioner appointment and approved Elizabeth Sparks for a Lifeways public seat (term expires March 2028) after a roll-call tally of 6 in favor and 3 opposed. Elizabeth Sparks had addressed the board earlier in the meeting to thank commissioners for the opportunity to serve.

The board postponed action on one Lifeways general-public appointment at the committee chair’s request; the meeting record also shows the Lifeways seat reserved for a primary consumer of Lifeways services remains vacant because no qualifying applicants had applied.

Commissioner Duchamp presented the general government committee recommendations; Commissioner Pawlowski presented human services committee items. Where committee reports indicated no applicants or requested postponement, the board either deferred action or asked staff to carry the item to the April agenda.
