Resident urges Jackson County to halt sheriff’s enrollment in 287(g) program, citing community trust concerns

Ybarra also said the county’s jail costs could rise if the sheriff’s office housed people detained on civil immigration warrants, and he warned the county could be held financially responsible for civil-rights claims. “The cost of your accountability, should that arise, will be passed on to the people of Jackson County,” he said.
