Sudbury 2 50 finalizes April 19 program at Martha Mary Chapel and Wayside Inn; committee sorts logistics

The Sudbury 2 50 Committee on March 26 confirmed details for its April 19 observance: a free public concert at Martha Mary Chapel featuring Colonial Minstrels, a private Wayside Inn dinner for ticket holders, bell ringing and a public march, and ancillary hospitality and publicity coordinated with the Sudbury Historical Society.

John (committee member/organizer) and Jim (committee member working with the Wayside events) described the day’s sequence: the Colonial Minstrels will perform from about 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Martha Mary Chapel; a private dinner at the Wayside Inn follows for ticket holders. The committee will ring bells at 5:45 p.m., conduct a roll call and then march through town and stop briefly at the Revolutionary War Cemetery for a salute, organizers said.

Committee members discussed public amenities and outreach. Ellen Niederman (Historical Society contact) will open the Sudbury Historical Society building to provide warm space, restrooms and coffee for the public beginning about 5:30 a.m. (committee discussion). Tony (inn staff) and Wayside Inn staff will coordinate food for militia participants; the historical society will likely provide coffee and public-facing refreshments. Committee members emphasized the need to coordinate who provides food, the location of serving tables and the placement of militia and public concessions to avoid confusion.

Promotion and printed materials were addressed. Rachel (committee member) and Ian (committee member) prepared a draft brochure and map; the committee completed a typeset review and asked Rachel and Ian to forward a final PDF to the printer so printed copies are available for the Historical Society on April 19. The committee requested program copy from the Minstrels and a photograph for web and print materials.

Logistics for the march and ceremonies were discussed: participants will ring bells, read roll call, and march to the Concord line and the town common, then proceed to the Revolutionary War Cemetery for a volley salute. Committee members reminded potential participants to avoid obstructing traffic and to follow marshals’ directions. The committee will place vendor and militia food tables away from the Historical Society entrance to reduce confusion.

The committee also discussed future publicity and volunteer staffing: one volunteer offered to man a merchandise and information table during a separate July parade; committee members discussed Memorial Day and Fourth of July outreach opportunities. No formal motions or votes were taken on April 19 activities at the meeting; members recorded assignments and deadlines for printed materials and vendor coordination.
