Bowne, who lives at 16 Rice Road, said he is available this summer and that his project will require an organizational sponsor, a written plan, troop approval and regional council sign‑off before he executes work. He said projects can be built structures like kiosks or be research and website work that benefits the community.
Commissioners suggested several locations and project types. Commissioner Jan Costa and others proposed either a new kiosk or improved interpretive panels at the Revolutionary War training field (which currently has minimal signage) or at the Haines Garrison site where existing signage is out‑of‑date. Commissioners noted prior Eagle Scout kiosk projects in Sudbury, described the logistics involved in design and installation, and offered to assign a commission contact to work with Bowne.
Commissioners also suggested website work and digital interpretation as viable options if Bowne prefers research and online presentation over physical construction. They asked Bowne to review the Phase 4 inventory examples and return to the commission with a preferred site and a preliminary plan; the commission invited him to the April meeting to present a proposal.
Next steps: Bowne will research the two site options, review prior kiosk examples and confirm if he can present a project proposal at the commission’s April meeting. Commissioners offered to mentor and connect him with volunteers and local archives to support design and research.
