Sudbury Board of Health hears monthly public-health report; staff flag flu, norovirus, food-safety and funding concerns

At a Town of Sudbury Board of Health meeting, health department staff gave updates on seasonal illnesses, department staffing and grants, and warned that a state cost-analysis for foundational public-health services could reshape future funding.

In her report, Katie, a health department staff member, said influenza remains high locally and that COVID is “sticking around.” She also noted a few norovirus cases: “we still have a couple of noroviruses that are popping up here and there,” and urged residents to practice hand hygiene and cough etiquette.

The report outlined several community events: a Community Health Fair scheduled for April 8 (public hours 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; vision screenings available roughly 8 a.m.–4 p.m.), and a hazardous-waste collection planned for March 29, 8 a.m.–noon, for which Vivian said there were “right about 300 sign ups.” Social-work staff said planning is under way for May’s mental-health month, including virtual and in-person talks on gut health and suicide-prevention training.
