Planning Board appoints Scott Yuki to Design Review Board seat

The Town of Sudbury Planning Board voted to appoint Scott Yuki to a vacant seat on the Design Review Board during its March 12, 2025 meeting.

Yuki, a Sudbury resident for about five-and-a-half years, told the board he works in marketing — currently as a chief marketing officer — and said his professional experience with design aesthetics, style guides and packaging would help him evaluate how new signs and building features fit Sudbury’s historic character and the board’s bylaws. “There is certain prioritization in terms of what we want to communicate, how we want to communicate it,” Yuki said during the interview.

Board members who questioned Yuki praised his answers and local perspective. Planning Board member John Spruill said Yuki’s experience with guidelines and standards aligned with the board’s expectations; another member noted Yuki’s capacity to balance “traditional and modern” design. The board briefly discussed examples, including the Whole Foods building and a nearby large storage facility, as reference points for how the Design Review Board weighs scale, materials and context.

A motion to appoint Yuki was made and seconded; the board took a voice/roll-call vote and indicated the motion carried. The chair said the town clerk would be notified and that Yuki would be sworn in at town hall, likely within the next two weeks, in time for the Design Review Board meeting scheduled two weeks after the March 12 Planning Board meeting.

The appointment followed a short public-opening and roll call at the start of the Planning Board meeting; the session was held remotely under Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2023.

The Planning Board did not identify any outstanding conditions attached to the appointment during the March 12 meeting.
