Sudbury conservation commission recommends Victor Salkowski as associate member

The Town of Sudbury Conservation Commission on Monday voted to recommend Victor Salkowski to the town manager for appointment as an associate member of the Conservation Commission for a three-year term.

Salkowski, who said he lives at 73 Moore Road, told commissioners he previously served on the commission for about four years, including as vice chair nearly a decade ago, and has returned to Sudbury to manage his family's farm. "I live at 73 Moore Road in Sudbury," he said. He told the commission he has carpentry and trail-maintenance skills and has recently begun volunteering with Sudbury Valley Trustees, and that he wants to formalize that work through the commission.

Commissioners asked about the practical expectations for an associate member and training; Laurie, the conservation staff member, told the group the town charter limits the commission to two associate members. Commissioners also discussed availability and overlap with current members. Several commissioners said they welcomed Salkowski's experience with farm management, construction skills, and volunteer capacity.

A motion "to recommend to the town manager to consider Victor for appointment to the Conservation Commission as an associate member for a 3‑year term" was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote. The commission recorded unanimous assent in the meeting roll call.

The commission chair thanked Salkowski and told him staff would follow up on next steps and paperwork.

Salkowski said he planned to remain on the call for a short time after the vote and that he would be available to work on trails and volunteer projects if appointed.
