The Town of Blackstone Board of Selectmen completed its annual reorganization at the April 8 meeting, electing Dan Keefe as chairman and Michael Sweeney as vice chairman, approving a clerk and adopting updated rules of procedure.
After roll call the board opened nominations. Selectmen nominated Dan Keefe for chairman; the board voted in favor by voice and Keefe assumed the chair. The board then nominated and unanimously approved Michael Sweeney as vice chair and approved Ed (Clerk) for the board clerk role. The board voted unanimously to adopt the proposed rules and regulations for the board, which the town administrator said incorporate portions of Robert’s Rules and add sections such as liaison reports, boards and commissions updates, and a future board agenda item provision.
Selectmen also approved minutes of the March 19, 2025 meeting. The town administrator told new members that if they do not see an item on the agenda they may request inclusion through the chairman; he described the rules as promoting openness and transparency.
During the reorganization a newly elected member objected to what they called efforts by third parties to influence the chair selection; the objection was raised during discussion prior to the chair vote but the board moved forward with the nominations and votes.
With reorganization complete, the chairman opened the meeting’s substantive business, including a public hearing on a home-occupation permit and several Town Administrator updates.
