EMS reports ambulance pickup and notes average response time of 6 minutes, 24 seconds

Jeff Greenlee, chair of the local health care EMS, told the Belpre City Council on Jan. 13 that the service continues to handle call volume and is taking steps to maintain coverage while performing transports.
Greenlee reported call and transport activity for the recent period and said the service has used a second truck at times to offset coverage issues. He reported, “Our member's response time last month was 6 minutes and 24 seconds.” He said the service had completed additional transports so far in the new month.
Mayor Dell said Safety-Service Director and Ryan Bergen from EMS will travel to Indiana in the morning to pick up a new ambulance and return it to Belpre; the vehicle will be outfitted with radio and striping work before entering service. Council members asked whether locating additional EMTs or using different station staffing could reduce response times; Greenlee said there has been local discussion about staffing at the second station but that operational barriers remain.
Council members and attendees also noted that some delays are related to on-scene handoffs and the need to restock or turn vehicles around after hospital transports.
Ending note: Greenlee and council members said they will continue to monitor response times and staffing and will report back as the new ambulance comes into service.
