Library hires technology assistant; trustees hear program and event updates

Cheever described outreach and programming activity over February and early March, including participation in Community Reading Day at Millville Elementary School, digital learner grant sessions with growing attendance, and planned presentations at the senior center and other area libraries. “The assistant director and I both participated in Community Reading Day at Millville Elementary School last week…they were adorable,” Cheever said.
Cheever also summarized children’s and young‑adult program statistics: a school‑vacation story time with a Blackstone firefighter drew about 52 people; puppet shows and craft programs had smaller but steady attendance; a pajama drive had collected 232 pairs by the time of reporting; and teen programs such as the Pathfinder role‑playing group met several times with modest turnout.
The director highlighted adult services programming, including popular craft and paint nights and a heritage book club supported by an LSTA grant that has incorporated cultural food sampling. The Friends of the Blackstone Library have two upcoming fundraisers: a restaurant fundraiser at Good Stuff Smokehouse and a book sale on May 3; trustees were told the Friends will also hold a paint‑night fundraiser at the Polish Hall on March 28.
Cheever previewed a family event, “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” scheduled for April 10 with live performers, crafts, food and a scavenger hunt; flyers had gone out and trustees were asked to attend and help with assignments that night. She also described a “library of games” item (a small spinning wheel) added to the collection for short‑term loan.
On staffing and operations, Cheever said the new technology assistant’s paperwork would be filed at town hall and that the new substitute aide would help free director time by handling online invoices; the assistant will be introduced to staff and patrons before taking on any formal staff training duties. She said the new assistant will be available to help when outside contractors perform major technology work.
No formal trustee action was required on most programming updates, but trustees asked for more detail when new programs request funding, and Cheever agreed to report back with specifics for planned offerings.
